Round 23: Brookmeadow Golf Course has a Bright Future
Brookmeadow was my 23rd new course this summer in Massachusetts. It made me feel old because I called in Great Meadow and Meadow Brook, like some senile old man who can’t get names straight.
The course is one in transition. A simple, straight forward golf course overall. The land is rather flat as you can see in the pictures, but they are in the middle of adding some intrigue with green side runoff areas, new bunkering, and added length.
The course is tight and tree lined (Gary Player would love it...). Sometimes the trees genuinely get in the way when they shouldn’t. Particularly on the second hole, which is a sharp dogleg that I think would even challenge Bryson’s aggressiveness due to the protective trees on the corner.
The course has an outstanding shack at the turn with burgers, dogs, and brews. There are some good holes (7, 8, 9 is a good stretch) and some bad holes. It was in good shape aside from the work being done around the greens and in some fairways (which will make the course far better next year).
