Rounds 6 and 7: The Crosswinds is a Diamond in the Rough
Played 27 holes today at @golfcrosswinds in Plymouth. Checking off the seventh course in my quest to play them all. The three sets of nine holes are all really good. Our first 9 on the Ouimet was a battle with the weather. The second hole was a standout, a gorgeous dog leg par four (picture 3) with just a hint of links feel to it due to the land movement and fescue.
The Zaharias course, named after LPGA superstar Babe Zaharias, was a solid test. The par 3 8th (pic 1) offered a long iron challenge. The par 4 7th is one of those holes that on the right day you could go for the green. Not today though (pic 4). The par five 12, which we all made a mess of, was a strong dogleg left with a charming little green at the end.
The Jones course was my favorite. We played the tips and each tee shot offered choices. Driver to cut doglegs or play it safe with an iron or hybrid. The green complexes were a challenge and well bunkered. Great land movement and variety. The par 3 8th was my favorite hole (pic 7). But the par three 6th (I didn’t take a picture...) was exceptional, too.
We got some rain and the course held up beautifully (but my grips didn’t!!!). I highly recommend heading to Plymouth and playing all of 27 holes.
